SamaWritten — your questions, answered

How it works —
your questions, answered.

Everything people ask us before they put a band on — what it senses, what it does with those signals, who can see them, and what happens if something goes wrong. Short answers below; the how-it-works and science pages go deeper.

The basicsHow does SamaWritten actually work?

Five sensors sit against your wrist and sample continuously — an optical (PPG) sensor, a single-lead ECG, a bioimpedance channel, a skin-temperature sensor, and a six-axis motion sensor. On-device intelligence fuses those signals and learns your personal baseline over time, then surfaces everyday wellness insights: heart rate, HRV, sleep, respiration, activity and a temperature trend. There's no app to open and no button to press — you wear it and forget it's there.

Not a smartwatchHow is this different from a fitness tracker or a smartwatch?

Most wearables are built for workouts and smooth away everything else. SamaWritten is built around two things they tend to ignore: your own baseline — so it notices when your numbers drift from what's normal for you, not from a population average — and being useful in a crisis. It carries an always-on Medical ID that anyone can read, and a fall check-in that can reach a contact you choose over its own cellular link. It's a quiet wellness and safety companion, not another screen on your wrist.

Every dayWhat does it track day to day?

Around the clock it follows seven wellness signals: continuous and resting heart rate, heart-rate variability for recovery, four-stage sleep, overnight respiratory rate, daily activity, and a skin-temperature trend — all read against your personal baseline rather than a one-size-fits-all number. Alongside those it keeps your always-on Medical ID and stands ready for fall check-ins.

The sensingHow can it read my heart and breathing without a cuff or a chest strap?

It senses optically and electrically, right at the wrist. The PPG sensor shines several wavelengths of light through the skin to read your pulse; the single-lead ECG captures your heart's electrical rhythm in a 30-second on-demand reading; and bioimpedance passes a tiny, imperceptible current to pick up signals like respiration and body composition. Nothing to strap on, nothing to stick down — and because it models these signals over time instead of taking a single snapshot, it learns what steady looks like for you.

If something happensWhat happens if I fall or have an emergency?

A hard impact makes the band vibrate and ask if you're okay. If you don't respond within 30 seconds, it notifies the contact you chose — with your location — over its 2G connection, so it can reach out even when your phone isn't with you.

Caregiver check-ins are a check-in feature, not a monitored emergency service. In a real emergency, always call your local emergency number.

ConnectivityDoes it need my phone or Wi-Fi?

No. A 2G radio built into the band keeps caregiver check-ins and sync working without Wi-Fi or a paired phone, and a built-in eSIM roams across supported markets. If you move through a coverage gap, readings queue on the device and sync the moment signal returns — nothing is lost. Check-in alerts keep working down to 5% battery, and they keep working even if your subscription lapses.

Your dataWho can see my data, and is it private?

Signals are fused and processed on the device — nothing leaves your wrist by default. When data does sync to your account it travels over an encrypted connection, and you decide who you share it with, such as a family member or a caregiver you authorize. We don't sell your data.

SamaWritten Health Technologies Pvt. Ltd. is based in India and operates alongside a US entity, so data may be processed in the United States. A direct consumer purchase isn't a HIPAA-covered service.

Is it medical? Is SamaWritten a medical device?

No — SamaWritten is a wellness device. It's meant for general wellbeing, it doesn't diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease, and it isn't a substitute for professional care. Some of our more advanced sensing, such as optical biomarkers, is still under study in our research program on a precursor device, and we're deliberate about labelling what ships on the band today versus what's still being researched. For anything medical, always talk to a qualified clinician.

Getting oneHow do I get one, and what's the commitment?

You can reserve a band now. Consumer plans run from an Essential tier — 2G connectivity, fall check-ins to your chosen contacts, caregiver notifications and weekly wellness summaries — up to a Plus tier that adds deeper baseline insights, family sharing and a longer data history. Health programs, clinics and researchers can talk to us about SamaClip, our supervised institutional instrument, which isn't sold for self-testing.
